About Youth and Family Ministry
The Sunday Morning Experience
Join us any Sunday for children’s church during the 11:00 a.m. service. Families must sign their child in before church and out following church service. Classrooms are in the Unity Heights Building adjacent to the sanctuary.
Living Curriculum Education Philosophy
At Unity of SA, we use the Living Curriculum Education Philosophy in our Youth Education programs. The Living Curriculum is a process of spiritual support used to assist children, teens, families, and the church community in co-creating successful living. It honors the inherent wholeness and wisdom within each one of us, and utilizes storytelling and experiential creative expression to “draw out” the Truth we already know. The process helps us to explore spiritual principles and to become aware of how the principles operate in our lives.
Five Basic Unity Principles (for children and teens)
We use the Five Basic Unity Principals, identified by Unity co-founder, Charles Fillmore:
1. God is all good and active in everything, everywhere.
2. I am naturally good because God’s Divinity is in me and in everyone.
3. I create my experiences by what I choose to think and what I feel and believe.
4. Through affirmative prayer and meditation, I connect with God and bring out the good in my life.
5. I do and give my best by living the Truth that I know. I make a difference!
Sacred Safety
For the safety and liability of our program, we perform criminal background checks on all volunteers who work with our youth. It is our policy to have 2 volunteers per classroom space (this includes travel and participation in regional events). Our Safety Team monitors the Unity Heights Building during the 11:00 a.m. youth classes. They are trained to question anyone who enters the building while classes are in session. Registration forms must be on file for all youth ministry participants and will be updated at the start of each school year.
Please note we can only provide supervision of your child while they are checked into class. Otherwise, families must supervise, monitor, and be responsible for their child at all times while on campus. We ask that you please do so to ensure your child’s safety.
Stay in the Know
Check out the UCSA website to see what is happening each week at unityofsa.org. Scroll down to This Week in Youth Ministry. Email communication is sent out to families for program-specific events and opportunities.
Get Involved
Our program is a family co-operative ministry. There are always things to be done and many ways to serve beyond volunteering in the classroom. Sunday volunteers receive a free CD of the service. Please contact the YFM Director for volunteer opportunities.
