SUPPORT GROUPS
NAMI Texas is currently offering free NAMI Connection Recovery Support Groups, NAMI LGBTQ+ Connection Recovery Support Groups, NAMI Family Support Groups, NAMI Family Support Groups for Parents and Caregivers of Children and Youth and Grupo de Apoyo para Familiares de NAMI online. Register early as limited seats (15 maximum) are available. Participants must be at least 18 years old. You can also contact your local NAMI Affiliate for their support group schedule.
NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group is a 90-minute recovery support group for people living with a mental health condition in which people learn from each others’ experiences, share coping strategies, and offer each other encouragement and understanding. NAMI Connection Recovery support groups are facilitated by trained persons in recovery who live with a mental health condition. You are not obligated to share during this meeting. Pre-registration is required. Registration closes at 4:00 PM Central Time before that day’s support group meeting. Register here
NAMI LGBTQ+ Connection Recovery Support Group is a free 90-minute recovery support group program designed for LGBTQ+ individuals living with mental health conditions. We will provide a sense of belonging and a safe space to discuss lived experiences while receiving the support of trained LGBTQ+ facilitators. You are not obligated to share during this meeting. Pre-registration is required. Registration closes at 4:00 PM Central Time before that day’s support group meeting. Register here
NAMI Family Support Group is a free 90-minute support group for family, partners, friends and significant others of a loved one with a mental health condition. It gives an opportunity to meet with others who share their concerns, to compare experiences and learn from each other. Trained family members facilitate this support group. You are not obligated to share during this meeting. Pre-registration is required. Registration closes at 4:00 PM Central Time before that day’s support group meeting. Register here
Grupo de Apoyo para Familiares de NAMI es un grupo de apoyo gratuito de 90 minutos para familiares, parejas, amigos y otras personas importantes de un ser querido con una afección de salud mental. Brinda la oportunidad de reunirse con otras personas que comparten sus preocupaciones, comparar experiencias y aprender unos de otros. Los familiares capacitados facilitan este grupo de apoyo. It gives an opportunity to meet with other parents who share their concerns, to compare experiences and learn from each other. Trained family members facilitate this support group. NAMI Texas is offering a virtual NAMI Provider 4-hour seminar on a Saturday in June – date to TBD from 10:00am – 2:00pm Central Time. Registration closes on May 31, 2022.

NAMI Provider 4-hour Seminar informs health care providers on the challenges that individuals and families with mental health conditions face. The course encourages greater understanding of the family’s perspective so future care is more collaborative, involving the person, the family, and the health care professional; effective and empathetic. Having everyone engaged in the recovery process facilitates better outcomes.
8-Week Peer-to-Peer Class

NAMI SMARTS for Advocacy Training; Module 3: Meeting Your Policymaker

NAMI SMARTS for Advocacy is a hands-on advocacy training program that helps people living with mental illness, friends and family transform their passion and lived experience into skillful grassroots advocacy. This course teaches you how to share your story in a way that moves policy makers.
The NAMI SMARTS for Advocacy course vastly enhances the power of mental health advocacy.
Virtual NAMI Basics OnDemand
NAMI Basics OnDemand is a free, six-session online education course that was developed in response to the demand for a conveniently accessible version of NAMI Basics. Just like the in-person course, NAMI Basics OnDemand is geared toward the unique needs of parents, other caregivers and other family members who provide care for youth aged 22 or younger who are experiencing mental health symptoms. What is the role of the faith community in helping people and families touched by serious mental illness? The purpose of Bridges of Hope is to educate faith communities about mental illness so that they can create stronger safety nets and welcoming communities of faith for people affected by mental illness.
NAMI Texas Panhandle will share information about mental illness, effective faith community responses, and community resources.
