For many of us, October brings longer nights, decorating for halloween, and fun costumes. It's also an opportunity to face our fears. For kids, they get to face their fears of the dark, spiders, and spooky things that go bump in the night. But what about us grown ups? Are we willing to face our own fears? For some grown ups, it's the fear of never finding their person, or the perfect job that makes them smile when they wake up; or for those who are dealing with chronic illness or pain, it's the fear of never being well again. As parents, we teach the most by what we are doing and who we are being. Our actions and our way of being are so much louder than our words. For our kids to face their fears and anxieties, they must see us willing to do the hard work to face ours.Sometimes, the fear we are faced with is not being good enough or perfect enough for our kids. We don't have to be perfect to be a good parent. By sharing our fears (in an age appropriate way), and what we are doing to overcome them, we give our kids the courage to face their own fears. Not sure how to face your fears? Prayer and meditation are a great starting place. So is talking to those close to you and sharing your fears with them. The scariest place we can really be is in our heads, by ourselves. If you have a difficult conversation you want to have with your kids, and you're not sure how to go about it, reach out to me and we can talk through it. We are called Youth and FAMILY Ministry (YFM) for a reason. We are here for your kids... and you.Don't miss these fun YFM events coming in October:
