Please note this is a 5th Sunday month. On 5th Sunday of the month this is an opportunity for families to spend time together in CommUNITY at Unity of SA. There will be no youth ministry classes this Sunday, October 29. Families are welcome to attend our 11:00 a.m. service in the sanctuary.
“I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.” – Maya Angelou
Your Youth and Family Ministry department is already hard at work and looking forward to sharing a fun day with each of you immediately following our 11:00 a.m. service, on Sunday, November 19, 2017! I remember fondly my childhood pre-holiday visits with my mother to the various holiday bazaars around our small town. I was fascinated by the word “bazaar”. I later learned that this word originated, most likely, in Persia and can be roughly translated to mean “the place of prices.” All I know for certain is that it seemed magical to me. So, in a few weeks, we would like to bring the magic to you!
On Sunday, November 19, following the 11:00 a.m. service, we invite you to join us in the CommUNITY Center for a quick snack as you take time to browse the various homemade and home baked items our children, teens, and families will have for your bidding. What could be better than arriving to your Thanksgiving dinner with a home baked pie, cake, or cookies with none of the pesky baking or messy kitchen clean up? Or, perhaps, one of our homemade gift items – such as bookmarks, scarves, soaps, or teddy bears, will put a smile on a loved one’s face when it’s unwrapped on Christmas morning! Sharing our talents with our CommUNITY gives our children and teens a wonderful outlet for their creativity, and we thank you for your willingness to wholeheartedly support us and participate!
The homemade items will be on display inside our CommUNITY Center from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.. We are keeping things simple with a Silent Auction. If you are unfamiliar with how this works, here’s a brief rundown:
During a typical silent auction event, items for auction are displayed for participants to inspect closely. In front of each item is a document called a “bid sheet.” On the bid sheet, you will find the name of the item, a short description, its value, a minimum bid amount, and spaces for people to note down their names and bids. Placing a bid is as easy as strolling around the tables and jotting down your bid! Interested bidders simply write down their name and a bid that is higher than the previous bid. Our silent auction bidding will close at 12:55 p.m., and the highest written bid will be the winner! By 1:00 p.m., you could be the proud owner of homemade goodies to make your holidays less stressful and more delicious!
At UCSA, your Youth and Family Ministry team counts upon your generous donations to help fund Rally events for our teens as well as local events for all age groups. Our greatest hope with our Silent Auction is that your generosity will be met with our own as we share our gifts and talents with our beloved church community. I invite you to open not only your piggy banks, but also your hearts on Sunday, November 19. Our children and teens will be thrilled with your donations but even more so by your comments on their handiwork. Thank you for your love, prayers, support, and recognition of the wonderful young people in your midst!
