Today in YM:
During the month of November, we will be discussing the topic of active gratitude and how we can express this in our lives and in the world around us.
For each Sunday in November, our adult volunteers will focus on the concept of active gratitude versus passive gratitude. Passive gratitude is what we generally think of when we make list of things for which we are thankful – passive gratitude means that we feel thankful, loved, happy for something that has happened to us or that someone has done for us. Active gratitude is tapping into the power of the Divine, of God, of Spirit. Active gratitude is a way of living, knowing that we are surrounded by abundance, knowing that we are connected to and part of the larger universe. Through story, personal example, YM fundraiser prep, and a month-long outreach project, adult volunteers, children, and teens will develop their understanding of active gratitude and develop ways to bring this gift to life.
Through story, crafts, and discussion, children and teens will identify ways in which passive gratitude and active gratitude differ. They will learn to observe the role that both types of gratitude play in their lives and in the world, and they will develop the skill of utilizing active gratitude in their daily lives.
During the month of November, as we discuss gratitude, we will be working on creating gifts of love – wreaths to give to our friends at Harbour Hospice. We have partnered with this organization in the past, and the wreaths we make will be given to current hospice patients in their care.
Principle #1: There is One Presence and One Power in the universe and in my life – God the Good.
Principle #2: Our essence is of God; therefore, we are inherently good.
Principle #3: We are co-creators with God – by our thoughts, words, & actions.
Principle #4: Through prayer, meditation & affirmations, we align ourselves with God.
Principle #5: We must also live the Truth we know, through our thoughts, words, and actions.
