A Cooperative Opportunity to Increase Family Participation
Dear UCSA Families,
This year in youth ministry, more than ever, has called for a program makeover! Growing classrooms are good problems to have, but volunteer availability has led us to the decision to put more FAMILY in Youth & Family Ministry.
We are officially changing the name to Cooperative Youth & Family Ministry and we will operate as such. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with a Co-op, this is an opportunity for us to increase family participation by having parents join us in the classroom and contribute to our youths’ spiritual education. A cooperative program relies heavily on our families being committed to sacred service and understanding that the gift of one’s time, even once a month, can truly impact a child or teen’s experience and allow another parent to enjoy the Sunday service.
How it Works:
Our Core Volunteers will remain in service and act as Lead Teachers or Sponsors in the classrooms. We will do our best to work with your comfort level in the classroom knowing that some will be eager to jump in and lead and others might want to quietly and lovingly hold the space by simply being there. Both are awesome! You will never be asked to lead a class and you will never be left alone without an experienced volunteer. We also want to respect the safe space that has been created, especially for our teens, to express themselves freely. If you or your teen is uncomfortable with you being in the classroom we will find another age group or area of service. Sign up here for your desired position and time slot.
Adult family members who are not currently volunteering and who have been in regular attendance or active in the church for at least 6 months will be asked to sign up to serve once a month as a classroom assistant, safety team member, or new family greeter.
All family volunteers will report to YFM Room 104 in the Unity Heights Building at 10:30 a.m. At that time, we will be able to determine if we have adequate coverage or where we need assistance. Volunteers will receive a reminder email/phone call the week of service.
*Moderate Training and Background Checks will be required for all volunteers
We are excited for your participation and for the incredible spiritual growth that will take place within our program through your dedicated service!
