Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding. – Albert Einstein
Throughout the month of October, we will be building upon the work we have done with our Pathways to Peace topic of September. Our creative and fun pinwheels are now decorating our Youth Ministry space as a reminder of the discussions we have had and the importance of our work towards inner and outward peace. Having a firm grasp on the importance of living peacefully with ourselves and with others, we will spend the next several weeks thinking about and discussing what it means truly to understand “others” and how we can best develop our inborn trait of empathy.
Teacher Focus Adult volunteers and guest speakers will share information with children and teens about:
October 1: Intro to Peace Through Understanding and Introductions from the Heart October 8: Guest Speaker, Shay Wilson – Real Talk about Race October 15: Guest Speaker, Juliana Berry – Being Differently Abled in the World October 22: Guest Speaker, Understanding the LGBTQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual/Agender/Aromatic)Community October 29: Fifth Sunday/Family Sunday no YM Classes
Empathy: The ability to understand and share the feelings of another.
Children and Teens will work towards developing and strengthening their sense of empathy, with themselves and others. Through discussion, games, guest speaker interaction, and stories, children, teens, and adults will share honest and open dialogue leading to a greater sense of empathy and a deeper understanding of its importance in creating the peaceful environment in which we wish to live.
This Sunday, we welcome personal trainer and motivational SPEAKER, Shay Forbes-Wilson as our guest speaker. With her zest for life and heart of love, Shay will share her personal experiences and insights as she engages our youth in a “Real Talk About Race”
Our younger children will also have the opportunity to read and discuss the book, Am I a Color, Too? and Whoever You Are.
Principle #3: I create my life experience by what I choose to think, believe and feel. Principle #5: I must live the Truth that I know!
