Jennifer Llamas, Youth and Family Ministry Director
Who among us is not worthy of love? How can we possibly love others if we do not love ourselves? And, how does the innate Power of Understanding lead us to a love beyond judgment? These are the questions that we will explore this week through our Youth Ministry lessons.
Last week, our July study of the Power of Understanding focused on the question, “Who are We?” Through story, prayer, affirmation and suggested activities, families were given the opportunity to ponder how we can best find the truth within ourselves and how we can move beyond the outer description of “self” towards the truer, beautiful version that lives within. This week, with that knowledge in mind, we turn our attention outward to those around us. We will think about looking past their outer shells and getting to know the inner heart of the people we encounter in our lives.
This week, our Youth Ministry lesson will invite us to wake up to the beauty that surrounds us as we relate to other people. We will explore the idea that all imperfectly perfect humans are worthy of love; we will find ways to ground ourselves in the moments we inhabit; and, we will begin practicing – in moments of conflict – asking the question, “does this really matter?”.
Imagine how different our world might look if each of us awakened to the possibility of accepting things, people, and situations exactly as they are without imposing our feelings on them. Sounds like a big job, but where better to start than here? Let’s go!
