Shhhhhh… can you hear that? Pause for a moment to hear the background melody of your life. What have you been missing? What has gone unacknowledged? This week, in Youth Ministry, we will be thinking and talking about how we can expand our peaceful presence in the world by practicing the skill of listening.
Through story, discussion, and games, our children and teens will dive into the topic of connecting from the heart through our ears. It is fair to say that most of us desire a life of peace, connection, support, and understanding. So, the question we turn to is, how can we help this desire come to life?
Socrates states, “Nature has given us two ears, two eyes and but one tongue to the end that we should hear and see more than we speak.”
If we desire peace in our world, we may choose to cultivate the ways WE listen. It is a generous act of giving when we allow someone the space to be exactly who they are and exactly who they are not. This takes the ability to authentically listen with our Heart.
If we are going to expand our KNOWLEDGE, we need to listen.
If we are going to be SUPPORTIVE, we need to listen.
If we are going to be RESPECTFUL, we need to listen.
If we are going to be COMPASSIONATE, we need to listen.
If we are going to illustrate EMPATHY, we need to listen.
