“Giving From the Heart” Jennifer Llamas, Youth and Family Ministry Director
Our Youth Ministry Team is excited about our 3rd Annual Youth Led Sunday Service! This year’s message is about finding the richness and joy in all aspects of our lives and understanding the great value in all that we possess to give to others.
In our hectic, materialist American society, it is easy to lose sight of the fullness of our lives. In fact, in the American dictionary, the first definition of “Prosperous” is: “a successful, flourishing, or thriving condition, especially in financial respects. However, in the British dictionary, the first definition of this same word makes no reference to finances but instead reads simply: “flourishing, prospering.” The difference may be subtle, but it also sheds a great deal of light on our decidedly American view of what it means to be successful.
So, what do you think of when you hear the word “Prosperity”? For many of us, our minds are immediately drawn to an abundance of money or material possessions when we hear this word. And that is certainly a part of prosperity in our American culture. But, is that a complete understanding of the concept, and does that fill your heart with joy? In our lives as students of Unity Principles, this narrow focus often leaves a gaping hole directly in the center of our souls – there is a disconnect, a discord, a missing element.
Over the next few weeks, in our Youth Ministry classrooms, we will broaden our focus and understanding of what it means to live a life of prosperity, and then we will share our thoughts with the larger UCSA CommUNITY !
