Stitching Together Memories – Jennifer Llamas Youth and Family Ministry Director
Quilts are a wonderful, tangible creation which conjure thoughts of comfort, warmth, connection, and creativity. Throughout the coming year in Youth Ministry, we are using the quilt concept as our overarching theme as we stitch together our understanding of Unity’s 12 Powers.
Last summer our Youth Led Sunday Service highlighted our collecting gently used items for donation to a local school district. Our message was one of recognizing abundance and living in the flow. As an extension of this idea, one of our YOU (Youth of Unity) members dreamt of a service project centered around our very own UCSA members and attendees. The idea? Crafting a quilt made of fabric, material, and clothing items donated by our UCSA (Unity Church of San Antonio) CommUNITY. The response was overwhelming! In fact, because of the generosity of our church family, several quilts will be made – for display, donation, and fundraising.
We invite you to the unveiling of the first completed quilt, this Sunday, February 16, in the CommUNITY Center during our Community Event – our annual chili cook-off. Please join us for a wonderful time of fellowship, fun, food, AND to meet our talented quilter and see her magnificent creation. This quilt will be available for bidding at a special auction held in March, so be sure to come see it in person on Sunday!
