Jennifer Llamas, Youth and Family Ministry Director
During the month of August, we have explored our Power of Will which includes the qualities of choice, willingness, and commitment. Our Power of Will invites us to decide where our life is going and then enact measures that allow us to reach our destination. It is up to each of us to determine what our goals are and to re-evaluate them as time passes. The beginning of a new school year (even if it is a unique start for most of us this year!) is a great time for children and teens to consider their personal goals for the days ahead.
By employing our inborn Power of Will, we are infused with the ability to co-create the life we wish to live. Yes, there will be outside forces we cannot control (think, COVID-19) and people who share our spaces with us, but how we respond and how we shape our lives in times of plenty and in times of distress is within our control. We choose our focus, our willingness to remain on track, and our commitment to action.
Four times a year, our calendar contains five Sundays instead of just four. The month of August is one of those months in 2020. When we are meeting in-person, our 5th Sundays are Family Sundays, and everyone is invited to join together in the sanctuary and connect as one big Unity CommUNITY. While we are meeting virtually, we invite our families, on our 5th Sundays, to set aside time on Sunday or later in the week to share parts of our Sunday service together. You can find each Sunday’s service on Sunday at 11:00 AM on Facebook Live, or afterwards on our YouTube Channel or on our church website.
Our family prayer for this week is:
Divine Spirit that lives through me and around me, I am so very grateful for your energy. Thank you for filling me with goodness and light. I am empowered each day to make the best choices for my life and to head off on the path to accomplish my goals. I know that I am made of strength. I know that I am willing. I love that I am able to follow through on my promises. Thank you for breathing the essence of Will into my life. Amen
