Jennifer Gates, Youth and Family Ministry Director
The Youth Ministry department is excited to be embarking upon the study of Prosperity for the month of October! As part of our hands-on understanding of how the flow of energy and love work in our lives, we are pleased to announce two upcoming events that the entire UCSA CommUNITY can be part of.
During the month of October, each Sunday, we will provide the chance for our church CommUNITY to contribute non-perishable food items for the San Antonio Food Bank. And on the first Sunday in November, these same amazing teens and their adult volunteers will be hosting a Chili Cook-off Fundraiser!
The October event for the San Antonio Food bank is being undertaken with the direction and guidance of one of our teens who, along with family members, has recognized the need for food security that exists in our larger community. This past summer was a challenging one for the food bank. Not only were they tasked with providing a safety net for approximately 200,000 children at risk for hunger without access to school cafeteria breakfast and lunch over the summer, but they also saw an influx of older adults who could not afford food due to an unusually hot summer and the accompanying skyrocketing energy costs. Look for the big red San Antonio Food Bank barrels on our campus for the entire month of October!
Then, on the first Sunday of November, we are super excited to host a Chili Cook-off and Bake Sale! If you would like to bring a crockpot full of your best homemade chili, be on the lookout for the sign-up form. The Chili Cook-off is our opportunity to show our love and appreciation for the entire church CommUNITY – all proceeds from the Chili Cook-off and Bake Sale will go directly to the UCSA operating fund! Along with providing an opportunity for fellowship, this fundraiser will help our community continue to “keep the lights on” and prosper. And, here’s the best secret of all: it’s also our way of celebrating Rev. Jimmie’s one-year anniversary with UCSA! In typical Rev. Jimmie fashion, he prefers no fanfare saying that the best gift we can give him is a thriving, prosperous, healthy church community. So let’s make that happen!
