There are times in life when we end up with legacies we did not choose. Legacies can be painful or delightful. When they are delightful we are not likely to spend much time and energy thinking about them. Typically we just reap the rewards with gratitude and live happily ever after as the saying goes. But when legacies are painful and unexpected they can wreak havoc in many different areas of life. Some examples I recall working with throughout my career are suicide, unexpected death of a spouse at a very young, age and even just witnessing different examples of inhumanity to fellow human beings. These latter legacies can show up in many unpredictable ways under the guise of guilt, depression, anger or despair, and hopelessness. In the spiritual world can be our best teachers. They remind us that we are never alone. They can show us the way to greater empathy...but their greatest value may be found in their opportunities for healing.
