From the Board of Trustees President
Dear Unity Lights,
The Annual Membership Meeting on March 13th provided an opportunity for the Board of Trustees to recognize Board members, approve Member and Alternate Trustees, and present minor by-law changes to the membership for approval. The Board also brought the membership up to date on campus enhancement plans, our financial vision, and our Fast Forward plan. In addition, Rev. Linda presented her annual Minister’s report and the 2016 Financial Vision was explained by the Board Members.
Gary Glassman and Bruce Culbertson were recognized for their 6+ years of service on the Board. They have blessed this community with hundreds of hours of service at Board meetings creating the vision for UCSA’s growth and enhancements. With passion, integrity and love, they have ensured our community’s growth. Their commitment to UCSA will surely continue to bless us in other ways. Current Alternate Trustees, Tim Torres and Julie Stith, were approved as Members. Although this left us with two open alternate spots, the Nominating Committee was only able to present one nominee, Steve Meigs. If you read Tim’s, Julie’s and Steve’s short bios, you will note that all three are prior military. Divine Order will be in abundance at this year’s Board meetings!
The 2016 Board of Trustees is excited and energized to continue our Fast Forward progress. We have an open-door policy for our Board meetings, which are held the third Wednesday of the month at 6:15. Join us anytime; we’d love to hear from you.!
Updates regarding campus enhancements that are completed or in the works were presented along with the vision for continued upgrades to our facilities. Providing adequate space for Youth Ministry has been a priority, so the bookstore has been reimagined as a kiosk in the Community Center until other space and funds are available. The Community Center is getting a facelift and a donation of new patio furniture will allow us to enjoy our deck more fully. Rev. Linda’s Minister’s report highlighted changes to staff and staff responsibilities, the success of THRU, and the expansion of the Music Team. The Financial Vision reflects a negative income of $32,000 for 2016. The projection matches income from 2015 and decreases expenses slightly. Cash-reserve withdrawals can make up the shortfall, but we need to take steps soon to increase income before 2017. Single-purpose fund requests from the congregation, donations, or fundraising will probably have to fund new and unexpected expenses.
UCSA is blessed with an inspiring and devoted minister who not only radiates love and compassion but also manages the business of the church efficiently and professionally. Rev. Linda has a dedicated staff using Unity principles daily to find the abundance that is ours to meet the needs of this community. Lori, Birdie, Jennifer, Alicia, and Jeff, you are blessings to us and the world! The 2016 Board of Trustees is excited and energized to continue our Fast Forward progress. We have an open door policy for our Board meetings, which are held the third Wednesday of the month at 6:15 p.m. Join us anytime; we’d love to hear from you.
In Love and Light,
