Rev. Linda Martella-Whitsett Will Be Vice President of Silent Unity
San Antonio, Texas. Unity Church of San Antonio announced today that Rev. Linda Martella-Whitsett has accepted a new position; she will be named the next Vice President of Silent Unity. Silent Unity is a 24/7 worldwide prayer ministry headquartered at Unity Village, Missouri. Her last Sunday Service in San Antonio will be January 8, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. Also joining her in the move to Unity Village is her spouse and Unity Church of San Antonio music team member Giles Whitsett, as well as daughter Alicia Whitsett, the Cooperative Youth and Family Ministry Director at the church.
In her new position, “Rev. Linda”, as she is affectionately known by her congregants, will serve a ministry that has been providing prayer support for 125 years. The ministry helps people of all faiths from all over the world, responding to prayer requests via phone, postal mail, online, and the uPray free mobile prayer app.
Rev. Linda Martella-Whitsett has made many notable achievements and touched innumerable lives in her 13 years at “Unity of SA”. Some highlights include penning two popular books in the Unity movement, Divine Audacity: Dare to be the Light of the World and How to Pray Without Talking to God: Moment by Moment, Choice by Choice, for which she won the 2011 Best Spiritual Author competition. She facilitated the establishment of the THRU Project, a now independent non-profit created at Unity of SA. THRU Project supports young people, as they transition out of foster care, with mentors, bus passes, and other resources. Rev. Linda also was pivotal in establishing Recovering in Unity, a spiritual support group for those in recovery. She supported the greater LGBTQ+ community in San Antonio area in many ways, most notably with the “Freedom to Say I Do” event in anticipation of a favorable ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Obergefell v. Hodges on July 4, 2016. In her time at the church, she oversaw numerous improvements to the church campus, including the acquisition of the Unity Heights Building. Rev. Linda Martella-Whitsett gave countless hours of pastoral care through spiritual counseling and support on the church campus and at the bedside of congregants. She also served the wider Unity community by mentoring other Unity Ministers in Unity’s Field Licensing Ministerial Training, as well as serving for a time on the Board of Directors at Unity World Headquarters.
In a letter to her congregants she wrote, “As I broaden my ministry to support a worldwide commUNITY, I remain ever in the embrace of you, my dear, wonderful Unity of SA that opened my heart, transformed my life, and celebrated my divine identity.”
Unity Church of San Antonio congratulates Rev. Linda Martella-Whitsett on achieving this new position and upholds all the best for her and her family on their journey.
