Growing a Campus That Fully Meets Our Needs
The UCSA Campus Enhancement Team (CET) was formed in early 2015 to initiate the Fast Forward goal to “create a campus that fully meets our needs”. The CET is developing a comprehensive facility growth plan using multiple sources of information: the final report from Syncro Architecture, community comments from the presentation by Syncro, a review of past uses of our facilities, functionality of current buildings, and confirmation of space needs for all UCSA-sponsored services.
Through extensive discussion and data review, the CET arrived at 5 key areas of concentration that form the basis of this plan. These are dedicated youth ministry (YM) space, community gathering space, parking, campus beautification and unification, and expanded sanctuary.
Comprehensive Facility Growth Plan
Provide permanent space for Youth Ministry activities
Transition all offices on the north side of the 1st floor of Unity Heights to YM
Expand YM to all of the Unity Heights (UH) 1st floor when community space is vacated (long term)
Create a dedicated community space
Maximize use of current CommUNITY space through re-design
Install live-streaming capability in the community space for Sunday Services as an alternative or overflow area for participating in the service
Remodel the current sanctuary as community space after the new sanctuary is built (long term)
Ensure adequate parking is available for expanded attendance
Maximize current space
Fully utilize and make more accessible the space behind the bar next door
Explore ways to increase street parking
Improve parking for first-time visitors
Beautify and unify the campus
Create a unified and visually pleasing campus “edge”
Unify the “look and feel” of the entire UCSA campus
Improve pedestrian flow between and within buildings
Build a new sanctuary after the Unity Heights mortgage is paid off (2019) and convert the current sanctuary to a community gathering space.
The CET is committed to creating a balance between vision and fiscal responsibility. The final feasibility report from Syncro estimated the cost to build a new sanctuary and community space on Lawndale at $3,000,000+. This is clearly a daunting number. The CET aims to mitigate the overall cost to meet our vision by prioritizing projects, funding projects (or sub-projects) incrementally, and exploring all options to maximize existing space. The CET has made substantial progress toward the UCSA campus vision. We facilitated the demolition of the old Youth Education building, created a cohesive plan, and are ready to begin the work of developing specific plans for each area.We are looking for inspiration and practical advice from the UCSA community. Team members have found their passion around one of the five areas but they can’t make the vision reality without your help. We invite you to step forward and contribute to making this vision a reality.
What is your passion? Is this your call to sacred service for your Unity community? You can participate in the exciting transformation of our campus by volunteering to work on any of the initiatives.
