Unity Church of San Antonio Community Giving Committee
Unity Church of San Antonio (UCSA) has always been a community of financial generosity, tithing 10% of our income to supporting Unity organizations such as Unity Worldwide Ministries, Unity South Central Region, and Silent Unity on a rotating basis. Expanding our giving practices to include other worthy organizations has been a great stride in the direction of meeting our UCSA Fast Forward goals by 2019.
The Unity Church of San Antonio Community Giving Committee was formed as a result of the Unity Church of San Antonio’s commitment and dedication to the Fast Forward Initiatives set in place by our congregation in 2014. The Fast Forward Intention was to “Build a multi-outreach community service ministry.”
The work of the Community Giving Committee is in alignment with our core value of “Love” as demonstrated by the community behavior of charitable outreach.
This work is also in alignment with our core value of “Community” as evidenced by the community behavior of active participation in local causes that support the good of the greater San Antonio Community.
The purpose of the Community Giving Committee is to provide recommendations to the Board of Trustees for giving opportunities to non-profit organizations within the UCSA service area as part of the UCSA tithing commitment. The committee developed criteria and procedures that will ensure recommended organizations are in alignment with Unity of S.A. values.
The committee developed the following initial criteria for the recommended non-profit organizations.
Any potential organization we contribute to must:
- Qualify as a 501(c)(3) organization or a single event in alignment with UCSA principles. Religious entities are excluded.
- Provide local services primarily in Bexar County and surrounding areas.
- Provide a mission and values statement congruent with UCSA mission/vision/values.
- Provide documentation of financial integrity.
- Provide evidence that the organization is operating and providing the services as promoted. If available, documentation of results is provided.
Using the above criteria, the Community Giving Committee recommends qualified organizations to the Board for consideration on a quarterly basis.
The Community Giving Committee is excited to inform everyone of this quarter’s Community Giving recipient, Sarah’s Heart. Sarah’s Heart’s Mission is to “Value and celebrate life shortened by miscarriage, still birth and early infant death while honoring and supporting families in their grief.”
The Community Giving Committee will present the contribution to Sarah’s Heart during our Sunday Service on April 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. We warmly invite you to attend this service, and get to know the representative from Sarah’s Heart.
