The Power of Prayer
Jeanetta Davis, LUT, Prayer Chaplain, Unity of SA
My name is Jeanetta Davis and I have been one of your Prayer Chaplains for the past 11 years. You may wonder why I have continued as a Prayer Chaplain all these years. One answer I can give you is that I know firsthand that prayers can be answered, some right away, others may take a while. So, I have a story about the power of prayer I would like to share with you.
My relationship with my son was a delicate one. One Sunday some years ago, I drove past my son as he walked along our street. Something inside me said “Keep your distance.” That is what I choose to do and avoided him. Around 8:00 in the evening someone knocked on my door. It was a friend of mine. “Jeanetta, do you know what is going on?” he asked. My reply was “No.” “Well, there are 4 police cars outside.” Gary (my son) was on the phone with the dispatcher and was threatening to kill himself. He had a gun. My thought was to call Silent Unity, but Gary was on the phone. I got the number of Silent Unity and went across the street. I told my neighbor what was going on and asked to use their phone. Silent Unity prayed with me. As I opened the door to go home, I could hear my son screaming as he ran through the empty lot next to my home. But he was safe. Somehow, someone had gotten the gun away from Gary while I was in prayer.
I believe transformation is our journey in life, and as your Prayer Chaplain my life has transformed in ways I never thought possible. I can only speak for myself but by serving you, praying in person and over the phone, and by holding the congregation in prayer on Sundays, I have been greatly enriched. I would like to thank you.
