As a dedicated fan of the behaviorist B. F. Skinner, I often wonder what he would have to say about much of the behavior in large portions of our current society. There appears to be a lack of civility, a lack of compassion, a mean spiritedness, and much hate filled rhetoric. Where does this take a society? What does it communicate to future generations, and what does it do to the spirit of humanity? Especially for a society that is purported to be, “Created in and after the image of God.”
This week’s signpost for the road ahead is communication. All forms of communication serve to remind us that life is not solitary. Even when we think being alone and arbitrary serves us, closer scrutiny reminds us that connectedness is a deeper need. Because connectedness is embedded in our biological makeup.
