Rev. Jimmie Scott
On Monday, January 15th, the nation and many parts of the world will be called to remember the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King dedicated his life to upholding the principles of freedom, equality, and justice embedded in our constitution and Bill of Rights. His courage, his faith, his willingness to put his life on the line for those principles and many more, have been and still are major motivations for me to live the best life I can, in the best way I can.
In his book The Emerging Self, Dr. Ernest Wilson wrote this relevant statement,
“Behind changing facts there is changeless principle: principle which is the ultimate overcoming and fulfillment of all efforts at attaining health of body, serenity of mind, tranquility of spirit, and ultimately identify not primarily with the transient but with the eternal.”
Dr. King understood changeless principles to the degree that his life was a living testament to it. However you choose to remember the man, or to celebrate his holiday, also remember the principles that he stood for and the courage, faith, and willingness it took to do so.
God Bless,
Rev. Jimmie
