Rev. Jimmie Scott
Looking backward through the lenses of time, I am often amazed how often the crisis of perception has impacted my spiritual growth, both positively and negatively. When I thought and believed I was worthless and ineffective, everything I participated in reflected and followed that pattern of thought. However, when I believed in the spark of divinity in myself, everything got progressively better in my life.
Belief is a powerful force. It has been the foundation for all the world’s progress and the world’s regress.
Paradoxically, belief is pivotal.
When everything is going well, the mind and the spirit work in good, if not perfect harmony. But any deviation in that process of working in harmony can be a problem. The biblical adage from Proverbs 23 “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he,’ reveals many truths at many levels.
We see what we want to see, we understand what we want to understand.
We believe what we want to believe.
That, my friend, is the human condition.
