Rev. Jimmie Scott
This week while traveling the road ahead, I recalled an ancient admonition by the pre Socratic philosopher, Heraclitus. He reminded his fellow countrymen that they “could not step into the same river twice.” Because, by the time they stepped into the river and stepped out, not only had the river changed so had the person changed. Thus the same person can’t step into the same river twice.
Change seems to be one of the greatest obstacles we humans face in life. The status quo is much more comfortable even when it’s uncomfortable.
Being an occasional romantic, I frequently catch myself pining for the good old days when everything in my life appeared to me to be familiar. But familiarity is an illusion I have created for myself in this world of constant change.
So, as I continue the journey I’m leaving my resistance to change behind.
Today is a new day and the road ahead is clear!
