“Existence is a strange bargain. Life owes us little; we owe it everything.” William Cowper
For most of his life, Cowper struggled with depression and despair. Yet he was able to maintain a sense of awe and reverence for everyday life that ultimately enabled him to write some amazing and deeply insightful poetry. Doctor Martin Luther King Jr often quoted from one of Cowper’s poem, “The Negro’s Complaint” during the civil rights movement.
When we begin to understand that “Light” is ageless it makes the journey less arduous. Struggles come and go, but the road is never closed.
