Jennifer Llamas, Youth and Family Ministry Director
The current events of our global community are presenting us with new and unprecedented challenges. As part of our response to these issues, Unity Church of San Antonio – including our YM classrooms – will be participating in social distancing for the well-being of our church and larger community. All of our enrolled YM families will be receiving weekly YM lessons via email. If you would like to be added to this list, you may contact me by clicking here.
Today’s challenges are an ideal real-life opportunity to take time to listen, look, and ask thoughtful questions. So, remember to take time to breathe, take a walk, look for all the signs of growth in the landscape around you. By engaging our Power of Wisdom during trying times, we shine Divine Light inside our own souls and on the world around us.
Unity’s 12 Powers are our focus in Youth Ministry (YM) for 2020. During the month of March, our YM classrooms have been filled with the Power of Wisdom. Wisdom is our ability to discern what is “capital-T” Truth, and what our intuition is saying. By utilizing our Power of Wisdom, we are in tune with our spiritual nature, and we are listening to what life has to share with us.
As students of Unity, we understand that we can access our Power of Wisdom in all situations. Wisdom is “spiritual knowing”, and it includes divine judgment, discrimination, intuition and other activities of mind that come under the heading of pure knowing. Wisdom shines as the light from within that illuminates the way and reveals what needs to be shown at a particular time.
How wonderful that this Wisdom Study is being undertaken in Springtime – a time for transformation and growth. Looking at nature, I see proof of growth, transformation, unity, collaboration, adaptability, and adversity. And I notice that the wisdom I most appreciate in nature is rooted in its ability to face the unknown.
Our purpose in developing our Wisdom faculty is to let the light of Spirit shine through us, directing all our thoughts, words, actions and motivations. Over the past three weeks in our YM classrooms, we have discovered that the Power of Wisdom includes the gift of listening to ourselves, to Spirit, and to the world around us. We also discerned that in addition to listening, we also look for and share our divine light. And finally, we examined how listening and looking lead us to asking thoughtful questions.
